State Background Checks: A Secure State

State background checks are conducted by searching the official records of a person. Background checks were traditionally done by employers for candidates applying for jobs in their companies. But now-a-days, these checks are done for seeking information like past employment, criminal history and credit worthiness. These checks give better information about the person and are done by searching state and national criminal records. Public records contain a lot of information on every individual living in its domain, and anybody can access them whenever and however he or she wants to.

There are various types of state background checks:

a) Employment references: these are checked by contacting the previous employers of the person.

b) Education verification: these are checked by seeing school grades and certificates, degrees and other professional certificates obtained by the person.

c) Identity and Address verification: these are checked by verifying the person previous and present addresses, by contacting his relatives and neighbours.

d) Terrorist check: these are done to ensure that the candidate is not involved in any terrorist activities. These are verified by checking public terrorist records.

e) Credit history: these are done to ensure whether the person has declared bankruptcy, or is indebted, etc. These are done by checking state credit records.

f) Criminal history report: these are done to ensure that the person is not from a criminal background.

The state background checks include fingerprinting, based on which, the investigator checks state and national criminal records. Any kind of criminal record including sex, drugs or violence can result in the disqualification of the candidate. The most common convictions that may disqualify a candidate include prostitution, burglary, child molestation or pornography, robbery, rape, pimping, fraud, kidnapping, drugs, murder, tax evasion etc. While filling up the form for background checks, one should tell the truth. It may not be a serious crime, but filling the form dishonestly may land one in great trouble. The person may be fired from the job, or even be subjected to a legal procedure. Some of the factors that are considered in the state background checks are the degree of seriousness of the offense, whether this was the person first criminal activity, the age of the candidate at the time of the crime, how much time has passed since the crime took place, the conduct of the person before and after the crime.

State background checks were traditionally done by the police, but now, there are various agencies and websites which provide these checks. These agencies and websites use public records, state records, and databases, which include marriage records, divorce records, business records, birth and death records, accident reports, property ownership records, and criminal records to search for their clients. The state background checks include date of birth, academic qualifications, career history, personal character, personal likes and dislikes, hobbies, details about spouses, roommates, neighbours, all the names used by the candidate including the maiden name, correct age, property owned, vehicles owned including their purchase date, current and previous addresses and telephone numbers, and even DNA profile. There are various reasons for conducting state background checks.
